Posting #1 What Angered Me About Ice Age 3
I would like to discuss the main concept of, Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs .The fact that they were introducing Dinosaurs during the Ice Age intrigued me. How is this going to be possible? Dinosaurs were long gone before the Ice Age. They tried to display that a variety of dinosaurs were saved and spared in a cavern underneath. The animators displayed a hot, green land underneath a prehistorically ice. They display a large world flourishing with different types of plants but being placed under Ice with no possibility of sunlight; Could these be possible? These are completely two different types of climates and they are supposed to run parallel to one another? The animators demonstrate a dinosaur climate warmed by volcanic activity, come on and this is possible underneath the ice? How can plants survive with such a hot, volcanic activity around them. Also, how could the gigantic lava river not melt the ice and collapsing this fantasy world?
Is this a message we should portray to our children, that this could ever be possible. I understand that children movies should have a meaningful message in their plot and Ice Age 3 did just that with the dedication to friendship. My conflict with Dawn of the Dinosaurs is I felt as though the creators choose to bring dinosaurs out of extinction in order to appeal to kids and their love of dinosaurs just for profit instead of enriching the children with more relaistic plots. into the movie to carry on the series and the attempt of having their land underneath ice is just sending a too far stretched scenario to children. Again, I was bothered by this far stretched scenario but I did not feel that it affected me so much that I could not enjoy the beauty and the well plotted story line.
I commented on Brenda Weber, Courtney Webber, and Daniel Walsh.

To be honest, I have watched this movie once and I’m pretty sure I did not even catch this.
I see what you mean when you ask “is this a message we should portray to our children?” referring to the fact that this movie portrays a hot climate capable of housing dinosaurs existing under a land encased in an ice age.
I’m kind of torn and could answer yes and no.
Yes, because as a child you have a heightened sense of imagination and anything is possible. Animations have the ability to bring out childhood fantasies and dreams. However, Ice Age, dawn of the dinosaurs is simply a cartoon and most children should know that a cartoon world is not reality; it’s just something on TV.
Yet, I can also say no, because even though while I was growing up I knew that cartoons were just something fun to watch, I realized not everyone sees them that way. I remember reading a report where a little boy wanted to go see Spongebob Squarepants hometown of Bikini Bottom so he jumped in the ocean and drowned. I can’t remember if it is fact or fiction but still it’s a scary thought!
Overall, I think it’s really up to parents to censor what their children watch or at least explain to them that a cartoon world is far from reality.

This I feel has been one of the many problems with some films catered to children or fall within the family film genre. Story, plot, and some range of believability. Although people feel children won’t notice the difference. I beg to differ. It reminds me of the Disney television show “Dinosaurs” and how the family weren’t even the same species of dinosaurs. It bothered me so much when I was young.
If that fantasy/imaginary world is presented it may make sense. But in this case science is being twisted for the sake of a story which film tends to do in many cases. I think it also stems from the fact that if its animation there is a sense of leeway. I enjoy fantasy/exaggeration of reality but it does have its limits.

I would like to disagree you. I find that these movies are made purely for enjoyment, and yes for profit as well. However, the point of this was obviously not to enrich peoples knowledge but to entertain. As long as they arent teaching inappropriate values to children most parents I hope would agree that they will put up with the massive stretching done.
We must also keep in mind that this is a movie depicting talking animals. As well as I remember in the first Ice Age movie that animals that would have not gotten along in nature are now friends. Now that isnt scientifically correct either, yet we still enjoy it.
